BeamLab – an initiative by BeamSystems – is the platform for moving images. The leading themes are meeting, exchange and finding inspiration in the realm of media art. Video- mapping projects are displayed on the exterior of the art’otel amsterdam. The projects were selected from an open call for artworks and rotate every couple of days. Videomapping is a special form of light art that transforms an arbitrary surface, such as the exterior of a building, into a surface for the projection of video art. Cut precisely to fit the contours of the facade of art’otel amsterdam, the moving images and building become united. This makes it difficult to distinguish reality from artistic addition. art’otel amsterdam combines art, hospitality and cuisine in the city center. Atelier Van Lieshout’s work permeates every corner, while a 12-metre interactive art display evokes differing emotions. 5&33 Kitchen specializes in Mediterranean-inspired sharing plates, while the 5&33 Bar serves cocktails with live DJ sets. Additional facilities include the relaxing 5&33 Lounge, the 300-square-metre 5&33 Gallery showcasing selected artists, the 5&33 Library with art-related publications and the ultra-modern Active Club. Guests can choose from an Art Room, Art Room XL or Masterpiece Suite, all with complimentary breakfast, a piece of art, mood lighting, rain showers and Illy espresso machine.
